The 26th Conference of the Regional Commission for Africa (RC26) is set to take place from February 4 to February 7, 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This important event, organized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), will gather delegates from across the continent to discuss critical issues affecting animal health and welfare.
Venue and Agenda
The conference will be held at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Conference Centre, located on Menelik II Avenue. The discussions will be conducted in both English and French, with simultaneous interpretation available.
In addition to the main conference, an Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Workshop will be held on February 3, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel. This workshop aims to raise awareness about WOAH’s priorities in combating AMR and to engage member countries in addressing the challenges associated with veterinary medicines.
Accommodation and Travel
Participants can benefit from special accommodation rates at the Radisson Blu, conveniently located within walking distance of the conference venue. While WOAH will cover two nights for delegates attending the AMR Workshop, others will need to arrange their own accommodations. Shuttle services from Bole International Airport to the hotels will also be available for funded participants.
Visa and Health Information
Attendees are reminded to check visa requirements ahead of their travel. Most nationalities can apply for an Ethiopian eVisa online, while specific countries can obtain visas on arrival. Health protocols, including vaccination requirements and health screening for M-pox, will be strictly enforced.
Conclusion
The RC26 conference presents a valuable opportunity for stakeholders in animal health to collaborate, share knowledge, and tackle pressing challenges within the region. Attendees can look forward to a fruitful exchange of ideas and strategies aimed at improving animal health and welfare across Africa.
